ISC East wrapped up yesterday. By all accounts, it was a great show. Good selection of vendors, great educational sessions, and a lot of attendees. The attendance levels were commented on extensively in the trade media.
We were there showing the upcoming Version 3.7 of exacqVision software in the Winsted booth, and there were crowds in the booth both days, all day long. exacqVision was also being featured in other parts of the show, including the StarDot booth.
Geoff Kohl of SecurityInfoWatch.com came by and talked with us, and he featured Exacq in his extensive Podcast coverage of the ISC East show. We appreciate the complimentary things he had to say about us.

We just returned from an extremely productive ASIS 2009 in Anaheim. New exacqVision features were introduced, the booth was packed throughout the show, and we participated in a number of multi-vendor demonstrations and seminars.
New Features Introduced - We showed a number of just-released and about-to-be-released exacqVision features including:
- Smart Search enhancements - further search granularity that returns just the video segments when a particular portion of the image changed. Works across all cameras (IP and analog), and allows for playback, scrub, export, and save of just the smart-searched video.
- Multi-System User Configuration - part of the new Enterprise Server option in Version 3.6, this feature allows for quick and easy administration of user accounts across all servers in an enterprise deployment.
Mapping - highly intuitive and simple to use. Maps are integrated right into camera views; any number of maps can be used; maps can come from any source. Cameras, audio, POS streams, etc. can be dragged onto a map, alarm events produce animated icons on the maps, video sources can be pushed from maps to viewing panes. Nested maps allow additional detail (entire campus, building, floor, wing, etc) and alarm events on a nested map can “bubble up” to the top level map for instant assessment.
- exacqVision Web Server enhancements - upcoming release enables viewing cameras from multiple servers simultaneously, search and playback across multiple cameras, ability to save and e-mail/text a URL of a specific camera view grouping. exacqVision Web Server comes standard with exacqVision software.
Multi-Booth Wireless IP Demo
The multi-booth wireless IP demo worked flawlessly. Firetide set up wireless mesh nodes in their booth and in the Exacq, IQeye, Pivot3, and Anixter booths.
IQeye megapixel IP cameras were connected in all five booths, video was being recorded on a Pivot3 iSCSI SAN storage with an embedded virtualized server running exacqVision server, and exacqVision clients were in multiple booths enabling viewing, searching and playback of the video. This was a great real-world open-standards technology display.
More pictures from Firetide here.

Other ASIS News:
- Exacq was once again featured in the popular ASIS seminar What’s New On The Floor, a review of the hottest products to see on the show floor.
- We had our engineering contingent at the ONVIF Annual Meeting on Wednesday. Exacq is an ONVIF member.
- Monday evening saw a great turnout for our Manufacturer Rep & International Distributor meeting, where we reviewed our product and sales roadmap for the next year.
- Tuesday night was baseball night courtesy of our channel partners at Security-Net. It was the Angels-Yankees game at Angel Stadium, and Security-Net presented Exacq with an award at the tailgate reception before the game.
We appreciate everyone that stopped by our booth, as well as all of our technology and integration partners who were showing exacqVision running with their products in their respective booths. Below are some pictures from the show, click for larger versions. More ASIS 2009 pictures here.

At ASIS 2009 next week (Sept 21-23) we’re participating in a four-booth live demonstration of IP technology interoperability.
Exacq (booth #347), Firetide (booth #447), IQinVision (booth #353) and Pivot3 (booth #453) will be showing a real-world example of how easily standards-based solutions from open-system vendors can be integrated and supported from the field.
The live demonstration will feature wireless distribution, storage, and playback of HD/megapixel video over a wireless network across these four separate booths on the ASIS show floor.
Video from IQeye megapixel cameras in each booth will be streamed over a Firetide wireless mesh network connecting the four booths. The video will be subsequently captured and displayed remotely using the exacqVision Video Management System (VMS) running on Pivot3 iSCSI SAN storage with embedded virtual servers. Centrally captured video will then be viewable and searchable from remote computers in each of the partner booths and on smartphones.
A detailed description of the demo is in this flyer. The press release for the demo is here.

We just finished up the ISC West 2009 tradeshow in Las Vegas, held Wednesday through Friday of this last week.
We had a great show. Our resellers, Reps, international distributors, and their customers packed the booth the entire time, and we showed several new things:
exacqVision EL - Embedded Hybrid NVR Appliance
Our upcoming embedded Linux hybrid NVR appliance, the exacqVision EL, was shown for the first time. exacqVision EL offers all of the functionality of the exacqVision software in a compact, cool-running chassis. The backplane has BNC connectors for 16 analog video inputs and 2 spot monitor outputs, up to 24 IP cameras, and audio and alarm I/O. Highly energy efficient, exacqVision EL draws just 35W when fully loaded with cameras and running the client software, or one-fifth to one-tenth what typical NVR servers require for constant power, and ensures cool-running operation and low cost of ownership. exacqVision EL utilizes the latest Intel Atom processor, the same processor widely used in netbooks, with Atom-optimized exacqVision code. exacqVision EL is ideal for both stand-alone applications and as part of large enterprise surveillance systems. exacqVision EL will begin shipping in late May.
exacqVision Version 3.4
The recent exacqVision 3.4 release was on display with new features including the ‘F3′ find camera function that emulates a matrix keypad; support for a number of new IP cameras; and additional language localizations for international customers.
IP Camera & Access Control Integration
Our larger booth afforded more room to connect a wider variety of IP cameras with which to demo our software. We showed integration with the latest H.264 HD cameras from Axis; the new MegaDome megapixel cameras from Arecont Vision; the new VB-C500D from Canon, and the upcoming WV-NS502S Megapixel Dome h.264 camera from Panasonic (we had one of only three units in existence). We had other recent IP camera models connected from IQeye, Sony, StarDot (who was showing exacqVision in their booth), ACTi, ioimage, IPX, and Vivotek. We also showed integration with Lenel OnGuard and DSX access control systems, providing a highly cost-effective solution for adding video management to access control systems. We also were a presenter at the PCSC 7th Annual International Partnership Symposium. Our complete list of integration partners is here.
Upcoming Features
As always, we had a station showing works-in-progress, features that will be coming soon; this time featuring integrated Mapping, as well as Global User Management for managing user accounts across any number of servers in an enterprise video surveillance deployment.
Sales Meeting
We held our semi-annual sales meeting Wednesday evening for our Manufacturer Reps and International Distributors at the Gordon Biersch Brewery. Good food, good beer, good presentations and discussions all around.
ISC West 2009 was a decidedly smaller show this year, but it couldn’t have been better for us and our channel. The people that were there were focused on business, and the quality of leads and visitors to our booth is the best we’ve seen at any show. We certainly appreciate everyone that did stop by and spend time with us. Below are some pictures from the event. Click for larger views, or click here for the full set of pictures.

The ASIS 2008 tradeshow, held Monday-Wednesday of this week in Atlanta, has ended. It was a great event for us and our resellers. We showed several new things this year:
exacqVision Version 3.2
This latest version of our software, out in a pre-release form now and final release in a couple of weeks, fully incorporates H.264 support from the newest IP cameras including Axis and Arecont Vision. We had side-by-side comparisons of both Arecont and Axis H.264 models along with their mjpeg or mpeg4 counterparts running in the software. We’re impressed with these new cameras, and see more server efficiencies, clearer video, smaller average file size (in some cases significantly smaller) and generally higher frame rates. Version 3.2 also incorporates the new line of Sony IP cameras, plus several other new features and improvements. Also connected to the exacqVision systems were the latest cameras from IQeye, ACTi, Panasonic and Vivotek.
Integration: ioimage and Lenel
We showed the ioimage analytics-based IP cameras integrated with exacqVision, a solution that provides analytics options as easily as adding another camera to the network. A preview of the ioimage integration is here. We also showed our new Lenel access control integration.
Windows, Linux, Mac
The use of the Macintosh in video surveillance applications has generated a lot of buzz. exacqVision operates natively on the Mac, as well as Windows and Linux. There was once again a great amount of interest in our Mac software. We’ve seen significant adoption of exacqVision by educational institutions who cited the availability of a Mac client as a key factor in their decision.
iSCSI Storage & Serverless Computing
We showed exacqVision working with three of the leading iSCSI storage vendors: Pivot3, Intransa, and DNF Storage. In the case of Pivot3, we were running our server software on their unit, creating an all-in-one storage/recording system.
While there has been some online chatter about this year’s ASIS traffic being lighter than normal, we saw the opposite. We had a steady stream of visitors throughout all three days, and often were so busy that we spilled over into Axis’ booth right next to us. We certainly appreciate our Rep, Distributor and Reseller channel partners who came by, who brought their customers and spent time with us in our booth.
A roundup of integration partner press releases from ASIS is here. ASIS will be held in Anaheim in 2009 and we’ll be there.
Pictures from our booth are below, with even more pictures here.

exacqVision was on display last week at tradeshows both to the north of us at Security Canada in Laval, and to the south of us at Expo Seguridad in Mexico City. Our representatives for both countries were there and each gave us a brief report.
Expo Seguridad Mexico
April 22-24, 2008, Centro Banamex, Mexico City
Our Representative for Mexico, Raul Rodriguez of AccessGard, was exhibiting the exacqVision product in the Syestel booth at last week’s show in Mexico City. This is the largest physical security tradeshow in Mexico, and Syestel is one of the larger security integrators in Mexico, concentrating primarily on the banking sector. Raul and the folks at Syestel reported high traffic in the booth with great interest in exacqVision due to: 1) digital PTZ, 2) hybrid capability, 3) unlimited number of clients, 4) ease of use, 5) friendly search feature, and 6) easy creation of .exe files with search results. Our thanks to both AccessGard and Syestel for a successful show.
Security Canada East
April 23, 2008, Laval QC
Our Manufacturers Rep for Canada, Tony Williams of Security Central Marketing, was at the first of this year’s regional Security Canada shows. He said attendance turnout for this year’s Quebec show was almost double that of last year, owing in part to a change of venue from Montreal to Laval. He also reported high traffic at the booth, and of interest in the exacqVision product said, "The attendees at the show were very impressed with the ease-of-use, low cost, and vast IP camera support of exacqVision. The fact that we have every solution covered, including hybrids, software only, IP servers, and Windows, Linux, and Mac clients also made quite an impression!" Tony will be exhibiting again at Security Canada West on June, 11, 2008, in Richmond, BC.

The SecurityDreamer blog hosted a by-invitation-only seminar yesterday at ISC West entitled The Future of Video Surveillance. Steve Hunt, of Hunt Business Intelligence, and proprietor of the SecurityDreamer blog, chose 32 vendors exhibiting at ISC to highlight as having unique technology, products and market approach. Steve talks about the seminar here and here.
Exacq Technologies was one of the 32 companies highlighted yesterday. An annotated walking tour show floor map was given to the 60 attendees with questions to ask or products to view at each of the featured companies. From the intro on the handout:
SecurityDreamer appreciates those who make waves in the industry. We recognize companies that are constantly challenging themselves and creating a competitive landscape. This year we thought we’d put our opinions to good use. Among the vendors in the video surveillance arena, we’ve chosen some that deserve extra attention.
What were our criteria? First of all, no money changed hands. We selected companies we’ve heard of and in most cases have first-hand experience with. In some cases we know the customers. In others we’ve spent time with the executive team. The products we chose all use computers, software and networking in creative and forward-thinking ways. Every company has a product or customer success story that stands out. Above all every company has a product or a service that the Hunt BI team feels creates a better future for the surveillance industry.
We are flattered and certainly appreciative that Exacq was chosen as one of the highlighted companies in this seminar. We were in great company; other vendors chosen included IQinVision, ioimage, Axis, Cisco, Intransa, among others. We enjoyed meeting many of the seminar attendees who made their way to our booth yesterday, and we look forward to meeting even more today.
Our sincere thanks to Steve Hunt and the SecurityDreamer blog team for this recognition.

The annual New Security trade show, held at the De Montil in Affligem, Belgium, ended today. Our Belgian distributor, Custos, had a booth where they were showing the exacqVision NVR video surveillance product line, along with megapixel cameras from Arecont Vision and IP transmission devices from Veracity.
Luc de Cock, Managing Director of Custos, told us, “Your software was well received at the show. In the “exacqVision corner” of the booth we had an exacqVision Hybrid server on the left, an exacqVision IP NVR server on the right, and laptop running the exacqVision Client in between. The Hybrid NVR generated a great deal of interest.”
Our thanks to Luc for doing such a great job in promoting and supporting our products in Belgium. Custos can be reached as follows:

Once again we were exhibiting our exacqVision NVR product line at the BICSI Winter Conference, held in January in Orlando. This is the flagship North American event for BICSI’s 24,000 ITS designers, installers and integrators, combining training, RCDD certification, seminars, and a large expo floor.
We were part of the IPVS Magazine booth, along with Axis and Infinova. We’ve had a good association with BICSI. A common theme from BICSI members has been the rise in requests for IP video surveillance, and that side is increasingly being spec’d and installed by the BICSI designers and installers: the same people who spec and install the network and communications infrastructure. Our exacqVision Hybrid systems solution has been particularly popular in this area, as it allows for the leveraging of existing, legacy surveillance equipment with new and future purchases of IP video capability.
Our thanks again to Eric Moe of IPVS Magazine for another very well run booth. Our previous blog posts on BICSI can be found here. A listing of upcoming events where we will be exhibiting is here.
