We just finished up the ISC West 2009 tradeshow in Las Vegas, held Wednesday through Friday of this last week.
We had a great show. Our resellers, Reps, international distributors, and their customers packed the booth the entire time, and we showed several new things:
exacqVision EL - Embedded Hybrid NVR Appliance
Our upcoming embedded Linux hybrid NVR appliance, the exacqVision EL, was shown for the first time. exacqVision EL offers all of the functionality of the exacqVision software in a compact, cool-running chassis. The backplane has BNC connectors for 16 analog video inputs and 2 spot monitor outputs, up to 24 IP cameras, and audio and alarm I/O. Highly energy efficient, exacqVision EL draws just 35W when fully loaded with cameras and running the client software, or one-fifth to one-tenth what typical NVR servers require for constant power, and ensures cool-running operation and low cost of ownership. exacqVision EL utilizes the latest Intel Atom processor, the same processor widely used in netbooks, with Atom-optimized exacqVision code. exacqVision EL is ideal for both stand-alone applications and as part of large enterprise surveillance systems. exacqVision EL will begin shipping in late May.
exacqVision Version 3.4
The recent exacqVision 3.4 release was on display with new features including the ‘F3′ find camera function that emulates a matrix keypad; support for a number of new IP cameras; and additional language localizations for international customers.
IP Camera & Access Control Integration
Our larger booth afforded more room to connect a wider variety of IP cameras with which to demo our software. We showed integration with the latest H.264 HD cameras from Axis; the new MegaDome megapixel cameras from Arecont Vision; the new VB-C500D from Canon, and the upcoming WV-NS502S Megapixel Dome h.264 camera from Panasonic (we had one of only three units in existence). We had other recent IP camera models connected from IQeye, Sony, StarDot (who was showing exacqVision in their booth), ACTi, ioimage, IPX, and Vivotek. We also showed integration with Lenel OnGuard and DSX access control systems, providing a highly cost-effective solution for adding video management to access control systems. We also were a presenter at the PCSC 7th Annual International Partnership Symposium. Our complete list of integration partners is here.
Upcoming Features
As always, we had a station showing works-in-progress, features that will be coming soon; this time featuring integrated Mapping, as well as Global User Management for managing user accounts across any number of servers in an enterprise video surveillance deployment.
Sales Meeting
We held our semi-annual sales meeting Wednesday evening for our Manufacturer Reps and International Distributors at the Gordon Biersch Brewery. Good food, good beer, good presentations and discussions all around.
ISC West 2009 was a decidedly smaller show this year, but it couldn’t have been better for us and our channel. The people that were there were focused on business, and the quality of leads and visitors to our booth is the best we’ve seen at any show. We certainly appreciate everyone that did stop by and spend time with us. Below are some pictures from the event. Click for larger views, or click here for the full set of pictures.

Karlstad, Sweden-based Gate Security AB specializes in physical security, access control and video surveillance systems for the retail market, and had a booth at Butiksleverantör, the largest retail trade fair in Sweden, held earlier this week at the new Kista Expo Center in Stockholm.
Thomas Rasi, Marketing Director of Gate Security, reported that they had high traffic and great interest at their booth:
Butiksleverantör was a great success for Gate Security. We had many demos and the interest in the exacqVision product was very high. A lot of good leads and a nice promotion of Exacq. We had two main demo stations, one with 3 monitors and one with 4 monitors , and we had online connection with exacqVision servers in other locations throughout the country, all making for impressive demos.
We’ve enjoyed a long partnership with Gate Security. They have amassed an impressive clientele, having installed exacqVision video management systems for a large number of retail customers, including the ICA chain of Supermarkets and Hypermarkets throughout Sweden, as well as a diverse array of sites such as the Kalmar Airport, the Gröna Lunds Tivoli amusement park, a number of municipalities including Svenljunga and Arvika, and even the backstage studio surveillance for the popular Let’s Dance program on TV4.
Additionally, Gate Security holds the distinction of being one of the first companies in Sweden with engineers to be certified in CCTV by the Svensk Brand & Säkerhetscertifiering AB (SBSC), the country’s leading organization for certifying companies, products, management processes and personnel within fire protection and crime prevention, ensuring all video surveillance systems they install conform to the SSF-1060 standard for CCTV video.
Our congratulations to the entire group at Gate Security for a successful trade fair. Gate Security can be reached as follows:

Version 3.4 of exacqVision Video Management Software has just been released. This latest release, compatible with all exacqVision Hybrid and IP video surveillance systems, incorporates new features and enhancements, and continues our quest for rapid, incremental updates.
Version 3.4 is available for download here. Key features in the 3.4 Release:
- Instant ‘Find Camera’ F3 Function Key
- Canon IP Camera Support
- Latest Axis H.264 IP Camera Models Support
- IPX IP Camera Support
- CBC Ganz DDK IP Camera & H.264 Megapixel IP Camera Support
- Arecont Vision H.264 MegaDome & Panoramic Megapixel IP Camera Support
- New Language Localizations

Here are some of the features in detail:
Instant ‘Find Camera’ F3 Function Key
A new shortcut Function Key feature has been added to enable instant display of any camera in the enterprise system into any window.
Whether the exacqVision client is operating on a single monitor and connected to a single server, or whether connected to a large enterprise of dozens of servers, and powering many monitors, the new F3 function key provides the ability to quickly select any camera.
Among the many applications of this feature, it is useful when following an individual through a large building, casino or retail store. Replacing the functionality of a Pelco or American Dynamics keypad, this feature allows for quick selection of specific cameras by the operator to enable following the individual. The following YouTube clip gives a brief overview of the capabilities of this feature:
New IP Camera Support
A number of new IP camera vendors, and new IP camera models, have been added to the list of supported devices, including new multi-megapixel H.264 models from Arecont and CBC, as well as the new HD megapixel IP camera from Axis:
Canon
Support has been added for the latest cameras in the Canon IP camera line, specifically the VB-C50i, VB-C60 and the VB-C500D.
Arecont Vision
Support has been added for the new MegaDome H.264 megapixel IP camera line, consisting of models AV1355, AV2155, AV3155 and AV5155. Support has also been added the for the new Panoramic H.264 megapixel IP cameras, the AV8185 and the AV8365.
Axis
Support has been added for a number of new Axis H.264 IP cameras, including the new Q1755 HDTV H.264 Megapixel IP camera, the M7001 H.264 video encoder, the M1011, M1011-W and M1031-W small form factor H.264 cameras, and the M3011 and M3014 fixed dome H.264 cameras.
IPX
Support has been added for the IPX line of dual-codec MJPEG and MPEG-4 IP cameras, including the IPX-DDK-1500 network box camera, the IPX-DDK-1500D network dome camera, and the IPX-VE-3500 network video encoder.
CBC Ganz
Support has been added for the new line of H.264 megapixel IP cameras from CBC Ganz, including the MP1DN, MP2DN, MP3DN and MP5DN. Support has also been added for the dual-codec IP camera models DDK-1500 box camera and DDK-1500D dome camera.
A complete list of the supported IP cameras and encoders is available on our website here.
Access Control Integration - DSX
Adding to our growing list of access control integration is DSX, with their WinDSX system.
The exacq-WinDSX integration allows stored and live video from the exacqVision servers to be accessed within the DSX software.
Real time video can be automatically displayed in response to alarm events. Live and recorded video can be accessed from the alarm acknowledgement screen or from any input/output or camera icon. Recorded video can be viewed while running a History report. Live and recorded video can be accessed from Alarm Maps though a right-click on an I/O or Camera icon. Live and recorded video can be accessed from the Alarm and Monitor windows through a right-click on a given event. Live and recorded video can be accessed from the Input and Output control screens.

New International Localization Support
Version 3.4 adds four more language localizations to the exacqVision client:
- Castilian Spanish
- Chilean Spanish
- Catalan/Valencian
- Slovakian
We utilize a Pootle translation server for collaborative localizations, the same method used by software packages such as Firefox, WordPress and OpenOffice. This enables our international partners to have specific localized versions for their markets. With the addition of these four, the total number of localizations so far is 12, with many more under development.
Recent Releases
With this release we continue to make rapid progress with exacqVision, and incremental releases have hit about every 2 months. Through these releases over the last year we’ve added a large number of new features. You can see the full release history here.
As always, the latest versions of exacqVision client and server software can easily and quickly be copied over existing versions while retaining all user settings. The latest versions can always be downloaded from our Downloads page, or you can click on ‘Check for Updates‘ within the ‘About‘ box in the exacqVision software.
exacqVision Server software is available in both Windows and Linux versions, and the exacqVision client software is available in Windows, Linux and Macintosh native versions. Any version of exacqVision client can connect to any version of exacqVision server.

Our Norwegian distributor Vicon Norway was exhibiting at the SecTech Norway tradeshow held earlier this week in Oslo. Vicon Norway has seen a great deal of success selling exacqVision in their country. Tore Anderson, Managing Director of Vicon Norway, sent us the following report from the show:
Our main focus at the exhibition was IP megapixel cameras, video management systems and video analytics. We featured megapixel cameras from ACTi and Arecont Vision, along with the exacqVision video management software and ioimage video analytics.
We received great positive feedback on the exacqVision system from the installers and end customers visiting our booth, especially with regards to the user friendly interface along with localized language. We feel that the exacqVision system has a strong position in the Norwegian market alongside our competitors like Mirasys and Milestone.
Norwegian is one of the many language localizations included in the exacqVision VMS software. Our congratulations to Tore and the whole team at Vicon Norway for a successful exhibition. They can be reached as follows:

Security integrator Sage Technology Solutions had a booth at the Pennsylvania Educational Technology Expo held a couple weeks back at the Hershey Convention Center. Sage has long been involved in the sales, integration and service of Audio/Video and IT equipment to schools in central Pennsylvania, and more recently has become a leading integrator for access control and video surveillance into schools.
At the Expo, attended by educators, administrators and IT personnel throughout Pennsylvania, Sage was demonstrating the cost benefit of moving to megapixel IP cameras and reducing camera count, as well as the ease-of-use and cross-platform capability of exacqVision.
One of the more interesting aspects of their booth was the use of the exacqVision client projected on a PolyVision TS Interactive Whiteboard, enabling whiteboard interactivity with the video surveillance software. This made for a compelling demonstration and use of exacqVision.
Sage has a large installed base of access control and IP video surveillance systems in schools and healthcare facilities, focusing on brands such as Exacq and MAXxess Systems. As one of the leading integrators in the state, they team project management and sales together for all proposals, and provide the customer with as-built detailed drawings and training after the installation. We’re proud to have Sage as one of our Certified Resellers. They can be reached as follows:

We have several exacqVision demo servers in place to help showcase the capabilities of the exacqVision software. These servers are widely used by us, by our resellers, and by many end-users to evaluate the software. Among the demo systems are are two Hybrid servers, one Linux and one Windows, each with a variety of analog, PTZ and IP cameras of all types and brands connected, as well as a number of IP camera brand-specific servers.
Recently we added a dedicated StarDot demo server, connected to a number of StarDot Technologies’ NetCam SC megapixel IP cameras. This server is located at StarDot’s headquarters in California. Four NetCam SC 1.3 megapixel cameras are currently connected, three outdoors and one indoors. Here’s a 2×2 view of the cameras on this server (click on picture for larger versions):

One of the more interesting camera views on this server is the one aimed at a clock with a finely detailed face. It is a great showcase for both megapixel IP camera image clarity, as well as the powerful Digital PTZ function of exacqVision. Below are screenshots of the clock in a 1×1 full view, and then doing a live digital PTZ (click on pictures for larger versions):

The StarDot server is up and ready to use. If you already have a login on our other demo servers, your same username and password will apply for the Stardot server. To add this server, just go to Add System in the Configuration tree, and enter the following:
- hostname: stardot.exacq.com
- your username
- your password
If you’d like to get a login to our demo servers, if need us to resend your login details, or if you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

2008 was a year for significant growth for Exacq, and 2009 is continuing the pace. To accommodate this growth, we just moved into a new and larger office building this last weekend. In addition, we have been continually hiring, adding top-notch talent to the team. Here are brief profiles of the latest to join Exacq:
Christopher Hansen, Sr Hardware Engineer
We first worked with Chris back at Integral Technologies. At Integral, and at Pelco after the merger, Chris was the hardware engineer for the XPress TX-line of video compression boards, and most recently for the Intelli-M line of IP access control products. Here at Exacq, Chris is working on the next generation of eDVR compression boards for our Hybrid systems.
Josiah Jensen, Technical Support Specialist
Josiah also hails from Integral Technologies and Pelco, where he was the digital application specialist and technical support lead for both the DigitalSENTRY and DVX MasterControl-based product lines, and most recently the Intelli-M product line. Here at Exacq, Josiah brings his experience to the role of technical support for the entire exacqVision product line.
Bobbi Logan, Accounting Specialist
Bobbi’s importance here at Exacq cannot be overstated. A most needed resource, Bobbi oversees everything from order entry to IP license key generation to sales reporting and accounts receivable. Bobbi also comes to us from 8 years at Integral Technologies and Pelco, where she was a staff accountant handling everything from accounts payable and receivable to payroll.
Kevin Skidmore, Operations Specialist
Kevin is no stranger to us at all. We first worked with him back when we were all with Truevision in the early 1990s, where he was part of manufacturing and tech support of Truevision’s TARGA and ATVista video graphics boards. He joined us again at Integral Technologies in the Operations department, in charge of assembly and repair, continuing on with Pelco. Kevin has joined us once again here at Exacq, where he oversees the assembly and test of our exacqVision systems.
It is great to be working once again with Chris, Josiah, Bobbi and Kevin. And we’re still hiring. We currently have openings in engineering, descriptions here. Resumes are always welcome.
