New exacqVision FAQ Online

exacqVision FAQLast fall our tech support team put up a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page on our website, listing the most-asked questions they were getting from the field, along with the answers.  We blogged about it last November.  Since that time, our needs for a more robust FAQ site have grown and so we have made a change.

Last week the support team went live with our new FAQ site.  This new site provides a more intuitive and user-friendly way of conveying support information.  Questions are divided into various categories, such as exacqVision Server, exacqVision client, IP cameras, etc.  Searching has been vastly improved, and a new function called Instant Response has been added.  Type your search terms into the Instant Response field and related article titles appear in real-time.  Interactivity has been added: questions to support can now be posted from the FAQ site. In addition, the FAQ site now has RSS feeds so you can be notified of new questions and answers from within any RSS feed reader, such as Google Reader

You can get to the new FAQ site from the exacq Downloads page of our website, or simply enter www.exacq.com/faq into your browser.

exacqVision and iSCSI Network Storage

exacqVision iSCSI IP ServersiSCSI is a remote network storage solution used by many exacqVision customers.  iSCSI, which is a Storage Area Network (SAN) protocol, allows users to consolidate storage using existing data center storage systems.  iSCSI requires no dedicated cabling; it utilizes existing network cabling and infrastructure, and as such is highly cost effective.

All exacqVision servers - Hybrid, IP and third-party - can write to iSCSI storage units.  Due to the increasing popularity of this storage solution with our customer base, we recently made an addition to our exacqVision server lineup that is specifically designed for use with external iSCSI storage.

The exacqVision iSCSI IP Camera Server comes in our standard 2U rackmount chassis, and is built with redundancy and iSCSI external storage in mind.  Features include:

  • Dual, removable 160GB enterprise-class hard drives in RAID-1 configuration for the OS and VMS application
  • Removable power supply
  • Dual redundant gigabit network cards
  • Windows or Linux OS
  • Up to 64 IP cameras per server
  • Cost-effective system uses local storage for OS and VMS app only, and iSCSI for video storage

Ordering Info - The exacqVision iSCSI IP Server part number is: IPS-iSCSI-R2-RAID
(Windows comes standard, or add ‘-L’ for Linux)

iSCSI Vendors - We have tested exacqVision IP Video Surveillance software with iSCSI storage solutions from a number of vendors, including Pivot3, JetStor, DNF Storage, Intransa, and Nexsan

iSCSI Demo - Our exacqVision storage guru and product manager Robert Ansell put together this brief demo of using iSCSI storage with the new exacqVision iSCSI IP Camera Server:

Pivot3Our thanks to Pivot3 for the use of their High-Definition Storage™ systems used in this video demo.
