At ISC West next week we will see some new IP camera models that will use the H.264 compression standard. Arecont Vision announced their new H.264 megapixel camera lineup earlier this year at the Intersec show in Dubai, and will be showing them at ISC. ACTi will again be showing pre-release versions of their H.264 megapixel cameras. We may see some other new H.264 IP camera announcements as well.
H.264, also known as MPEG-4 Part 10, offers advantages for digital video surveillance applications. It generally produces smaller file sizes with video quality that is as good or better than video compressed using other methods.
The exacqVision VMS software was built to be compression-independent, supporting standards-based video compression formats. exacqVision makes extensive use of the Intel Integrated Performace Primitives for optimized video decompression on the latest processors. As such, exacqVision is fully H.264 capable and it is ready for the upcoming H.264 IP cameras. And all supported IP cameras can coexist together in an exacqVision system, even if they are different in compression formats and resolution.
When these new H.264-based IP cameras start shipping from the various vendors, we will have support for them. We’ll see you at ISC West.

One of the major new features in the upcoming Version 3.0 of the exacqVision IP video surveillance software is the Mac client. exacqVision currently supports both Windows and Linux natively, both on the server side and the client side. Now we’re adding Mac support.
As with all exacqVision software, the Mac client is fully interoperable with Windows and Linux exacqVision servers. That is, you can have Linux servers and Windows servers connected to the network of IP and analog cameras, and be fully administering, viewing, searching, etc., with any of the clients, whether they be Windows, Linux or Mac. Features and functionality are the same for all versions.
Version 3.0 of exacqVision will be released in the first half of April, 2008. If you’re going to ISC West in Las Vegas next week, come by our booth #6049 and see the latest. Free registration for ISC West is here.

The exacqVision NVR line of hybrid and IP video surveillance systems was showcased last week, March 4-7, at the Security Show 2008, held at the Tokyo Big Sight convention center in Tokyo, Japan.
Security Show is Japan’s largest trade show for physical security products. This year marked the 16th anniversary of the trade show, with a total of 73,000 people visiting the show over its four-day run, which had over 800 booths.
Our Japanese distributor, Sun System Supply, represents the exacqVision product line in the Japanese market, and was showing our exacqVision Hybrid and NVR Video Surveillance systems in their booth, along with IP cameras from Axis and others. They reported that had good traffic in the booth and a great deal of interest in exacqVision from the attendees.
Our thanks to Mr. Naohiro Kishi and Mr. Taro Morimoto and their whole crew for a successful show. Sun System Supply can be reached as follows:
